Air-conditioned · both floors · 35/1 Pai Walking Street
The air-conditioned bar on Pai Walking Street — both floors
Pai in the hot months is 35°C at five in the afternoon, and the walking street is a river of charcoal smoke and bodies. Vermut Café is air-conditioned on both floors: the ground-floor room behind the street tables, and the whole upstairs lounge. To our knowledge no other bar on the walking street is. Come in, cool down, and watch the market go past the glass.

Air-conditioning on floor one and floor two
Both indoor rooms are cooled: the ground floor with the counter and the window seats, and the first floor with the sofa lounge. The balcony upstairs and the lamp-lit tables on the street are open-air for people who want the market around them. Pick the room that matches the weather — the counter will seat you wherever you like.
Hot season, rainy season
March to May is the hot, smoky season in the north — the air-con room is where the evening starts to feel like an evening. June to October brings rain: when it comes down, the market empties and the cool room upstairs is the best seat on the street, with the shutters half-down and the rain on the roof. November to February is cool enough to sit outside; the air-con stays on inside for whoever wants it.
Smoke-free and quiet inside
Smoking is only at the street tables out front, so the air-conditioned rooms are smoke-free as well as cool. Before 20:00 the room is quiet enough to talk or to work — fast Wi-Fi, power outlets within reach — and on live-music evenings the upstairs lounge is the softer end of the sound.
What to drink while you cool down
Around 60 wines by the glass (120 ml, poured to the line), around 50 house-made cocktails from ฿150, Thai and imported beer, mocktails, fresh juice and coffee. Bring dinner in from the walking-street stalls — one drink per person, we bring plates and water — or order small plates to share.
Where to stay with air-conditioning nearby
The Arch Casa, a three-minute walk from our door, has air-conditioned villas in the centre of town; Betel Palm Village and Eden Villa have air-con a few minutes away. Our neighbours at BestHotelPai list them, booked direct with the owners.
