Vermut Café

Families · 35/1 Pai Walking Street

With the kids on Walking Street? Come in.

Parents ask us two things: can we bring the children, and is it smoky. Yes, and no. Vermut Café is a café-bar — coffee, mocktails and juices sit on the same menu as everything else, there are free board games at every table, and the room inside and the whole upstairs are smoke-free. Early evening, from 17:00 to around 20:00, is the quiet window before the music comes up.

Board games at every table, free

Every table has a stack of board games to borrow — some quick enough for a six-year-old, some that keep teenagers at the table until the plates are cleared. Ask the counter for the easy ones. Nobody is timed; stay as long as you like.

Smoke-free inside and upstairs

Smoking is only at the street tables out front. The room inside and the whole first floor — the air-conditioned lounge and the balcony — are smoke-free, so choose a table there if you are with children or simply prefer it. Upstairs is also the quietest spot on the walking street.

Drinks for everyone

Mocktails, fresh juices, soft drinks, coffee and tea sit on the same menu as the rest. Parents can have a glass; children get their own proper drink in a proper glass. The menu reads in six languages; scan the QR on the table.

Dinner: bring it in from the market

The walking-street stalls outside do skewers, pad thai, fresh spring rolls, fruit and banana roti for 40–80 baht a plate. Buy what the kids will actually eat, carry it in, and we bring plates and water — one drink per person. Small plates to share are on our own menu too.

Best time to come with children

Doors open at 17:00 as the market lights up. Until around 20:00 the room is calm and the music is low; after that it fills and gets livelier, and on live-music evenings louder. Families usually come early, eat, play a round or two, and are back on the street by 20:30. Last orders 23:30.

Where families stay nearby

Eden Villa and 365 Vila Connect are whole two-bedroom houses with a garden, a few minutes away; The Arch Casa is a three-minute walk from our door. Our neighbours at BestHotelPai list all of them, booked direct with the owners.
